Last night was the inaugural Imbibe Personality awards, and what an evening it was. The night was held at Bungalow 8 in the stylish St Martins Lane hotel, and the guest list read as a who’s who of the bar, restaurant…
Imbibe Personality Awards 2011
Dukes Hotel, the home of the Vesper
While in London just the other day, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting on of the institutions of London, the Dukes hotel, and more importantly their bar. It is famed that here is where Ian Fleming coined the phrase “shaken not stirred” for his most famous of characters James Bond, due to the fact…
Dan Priseman in the JubJub?
A couple of days in London town
Two weeks ago, Mrs drinkslink and I were lucky enough to have a little bit of time off from our usual schedule. So we packed our bags and headed to the capital for a fun filled couple of days catching up with friends, seeing the sights, and even managing to take in a couple of the attractions along the way. This is the account of what happened over those awesome couple of days. …
CC ElDorado-Missed it? Missed out!
A few weeks back I was lucky enough to book myself and Mrs drinkslink onto a rum tasting with El Dorado ambassador Stefanie Holt at the simply brilliant Callooh Callay. So, on Tuesday we braved the bitter chill and took to Shoreditch High St in search of our goal. After a quick hello to Sean, we went straight to the JubJub to meet the rest of the guys checking the rum out.…
Four Roses Dinner
Hopefully by now everyone that was lucky enough to visit London Cocktail Week has recovered, but it wouldn’t surprise me if not! This was a week full of fun and games, master classes, and competitions, all in all a hell of a lot of fun. Now, I got the chance to go check out a couple of things, but without doubt the highlight of my LCW experience was an evening spent with some fellow bloggers in the company of Jim Rutledge, master distiller at Four Roses Bourbon. …
‘The rise and fall of the green fairy.’ Those were the words that grabbed my attention at the bottom of an email I received some time ago, and this was one not to be missed. Absinthe is one of thos products that people don’t generally know a great deal about, myself included. I think in a lot of ways people are almost scared by it, it has this huge cloud hanging over it, and if I take nothing else from my day at the Boutique Bar Show, I will no longer be scared of Absinthe.…
Boutique Bar Show 2010
Just last week I was lucky enough to attend the Boutique Bar Show 2010 in London. This was a chance to see some of the new boys on the block, the guys who were young and fresh, and represent the new generation of boutique producers concentrating on quality and not quantity. Being boutique, there were none of the ‘big boys’ around, leaving more time to get to meet and chat to these new producers. Now I’ll be honest, I did speak to a lot of people, and gpt acquainted with some new brands, some great, others not, but I’m going to outline a few firm favourites of mine. …
Chase, from farmers to distillers
Herefordshire is generally made up of a network of small villages and towns, with not a great deal in between except for vast rolling hills, and plenty of prime agricultural land. With the Brecon beacons to the West and the Malvern hills to the right, it has a beautiful landscape. Nestled somewhere in amongst this landscape and agricultural land is a certain Rosemaund farm, better known as the home to the Chase Distillery. …
Imbibe 2010
Only a couple of days ago, I found myself taking the trip up to London, and in particular Earl’s Court 2 for the wondrous Imbibe 2010 exhibition. Here there were what seemed like thousands of exhibitors introducing their products ranging from water through wine, spirits, and beers. What an event it was, seriously, and any self respecting employee of the catering industry should have been there, but if not below are just a few of my personal highlights. …
You might have seen that recently my wife and I made the short trip up to Wales to visit the guys at Penderyn, and boy was it worth while! We arrived in the small village of Penderyn in the south Brecon Beacons, and were immediately greeted to the visitors centre by Keith a man that knows everything about whisky, and in particular Penderyn. Here he introduced us to the history of Welsh whisky, and the Penderyn distillery. It’s fascinating to see that there really is such a history with Wales and whisky, and how proud the guys at Penderyn are of this. …
